The Corsica River Pilot Project
The Partnership is embarking upon a major environmental project on the Corsica River. The Corsica River Pilot Project is to remove this Chesapeake Bay tributary, located in Queen Anne’s County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, from the state’s 303(d) list of impaired waters. To accomplish this goal, the partnership along with Maryland State agencies are working with local, Federal and private partners to concentrate all available resources and environmental programs toward the restoration of this single, tidal waterway.
Initial projects in the river system will focus on reducing nutrient pollution and sediment runoff by implementing a comprehensive set of urban, suburban and agricultural best management practices, and restoring bay grass acreage and oyster habitat. This multi-faceted effort will demonstrate that with a focused approach, combined resources and a comprehensive strategy, significant progress can be made in restoring an entire river system.
